How to use WAF for your team

Scouting reports, team evaluations, game plans, rematch breakdowns, AI film tagging and an AI assistant coach - step by step.

🏁 Before you start

  1. 1
    Sign in to WAF (free)
Go to Sign in. Signed-in coaches get their reports, film tags and notes saved to their account on every device, plus the full AI allowance: 25 assistant-coach questions, about one game of AI film breakdown, 20 AI file reads and 15 online-scouting pulls a day.
  2. 2
    Open the Coach's Report
Go to Coach's Hub → Coach's Report. Your saved reports are in the drop-down at the top; + NEW starts a fresh one.

✅ Build a report in 3 steps

  1. 1
    Check what you want done
Tick the boxes: Scout an opponent, Evaluate my team, Game plan: my team vs. them, Break down our last game vs. them, Pick plays to run, Tag game film, AI assistant coach, Pull online scouting, Printable PDF. The report builds only what you check.
  2. 2
Set the level and game date
Pick the level (youth, high school, college, pro). The level decides what “typical” numbers your team is graded against.
  3. 3
Load each team - search OR upload
For every team the report needs, choose one:
    • 🔍 Search by team (NCAA Division I): type the school and click LOAD TEAM. Real stats, every result, and WAF's play-by-play numbers (shot profile, lineups, on/off) load automatically. Pick “roster” for this season's players or a past season.
    • ⬆ Upload file (everyone else): drop in a Hudl export, GameChanger stats, MaxPreps stats, an Excel/CSV, a PDF stat sheet, or a photo of one. Several files at once = one per game. Wrong type? Change it to “one game”, “season totals” or “per-game averages” in the list.
  4. 4
    Rematch? Pick the last game
If you checked Break down our last game, the games between the two teams (last three seasons) appear - click one. Not a college team? Upload that game's box score instead.
  5. 5
    Click BUILD REPORT →
The bar at the bottom tells you what's still missing. Once it says Ready, build it.

📋 Read the report

  1. 1
    🎯 Game Plan tab
The last meeting (that game vs. each team's season, who hurt you, who went cold, keys for the rematch), the matchup (where the game tilts), the AI assistant and your plays.
  2. 2
    🔎 Opponent / 📈 My Team tabs
Keys to the game or priorities, four factors on offense and defense, strengths and weaknesses vs. typical numbers, shot profile and lineups, online scouting from ESPN previews and recaps, a card for every player (how to guard him, or his development plan) and the full stat table. Type your own notes anywhere.
  3. 3
⬇ Download PDF, PRINT, SHARE FILE
The PDF puts the last meeting and matchup first, then each team. SHARE FILE saves a copy your staff opens with OPEN FILE. ✎ EDIT SETUP goes back to the checkmarks.

💬 Ask the AI assistant coach

  1. 1
Ask like you'd ask an assistant
In the Ask Waffle box: “Build our game plan”, “Who guards their best scorer?”, “Plan a 90-minute practice from our weaknesses”. It reads your report and looks up any D-I team, player or game and all 142 Play Library plays on its own - the line “🔎 Looked up…” shows what it checked.
  2. 2
    Have it invent something new
“Design a new ATO to beat a team that switches everything” or “Build a press break for our personnel”. You get a NEW CONCEPT: alignment, step-by-step, reads, the counter, how it holds up vs. switch / hedge / zone, who it fits and how to teach it.
  3. 3
    Check it
Every number comes from the data, and it labels fact, read and guess. Still - it's an assistant. Check it against your eye and your film.

🎬 Film: tag it yourself or let the AI do it

  1. 1
Check "Tag game film" and open 🎬 Film Room
Film-only works too: check just Tag game film, name the two teams, build.
  2. 2
    Your own film file
Click LOAD VIDEO FILE - a Hudl download, your camera's video, GameChanger video. It plays from your computer and is never uploaded. Only use film your program has the rights to.
  3. 3
    🤖 AI BREAKDOWN
Enter both teams' jersey colors, pick how much (5 minutes to the whole game), click 🤖 AI BREAKDOWN. It starts at the video's current time; 10 minutes of film takes about 2-3 minutes. Every possession becomes a 🤖 tag: who had it, play type, defense, result, jersey number and a note.
  4. 4
    🔗 A YouTube game
Paste a public YouTube link in AI REVIEW OF A YOUTUBE GAME (a &t= in the link sets the start). Google's AI watches it on YouTube's side - nothing plays or downloads on WAF. 10 minutes takes about 4. Clicking a tag's time opens that moment on YouTube.
  5. 5
    Confirm the tags
Click a tag's time to check it on film, ✓ to confirm, ✕ to delete - or ✓ CONFIRM ALL. Tag by hand any time with the possession, play type and result buttons (keys: space play/pause, ← → 5 seconds). The breakdown builds points per possession by play type, and it feeds the report, the PDF and the AI assistant.
  6. 6
    📺 Game footage
For college teams loaded by search, ESPN's highlight clips from the last meeting and both teams' recent games appear automatically.

🤖 Use WAF Coach Assistant in ChatGPT

  1. 1
    Get the ChatGPT desktop app
WAF Coach Assistant is a ChatGPT plugin with live WAF data, which runs in the ChatGPT desktop app. Download it from chatgpt.com and sign in.
  2. 2
    Open the plugin
Go to Plugins and open WAF Coach Assistant (or type @WAF Coach Assistant in a chat).
  3. 3
Start with a starter - or ask anything
“Scout this team from my stat file” (attach your file), “Game plan: my team vs. our next opponent”, “Design a new ATO to beat a switching defense”. It looks up D-I teams, games and the WAF Play Library live, and knows all 142 plays.
  4. 4
    Bring a report over
On a built report here, 💬 OPEN IN CHATGPT (when shown) copies the whole report - paste it into the chat and ask away.

💡 Tips

  1. 1
    Include Totals and Opponents rows
When your stat app has them, they unlock team totals and every defensive number.
  2. 2
One file per game is fine
Upload games one at a time all season; a season file and game files for the same games won't double-count.
  3. 3
    Hit a limit?
Limits reset daily. Signed-out visitors get a small taste; signing in (free) raises them.
  4. 4
